How one would feel to watch a latest thrilling movie with your colleagues at work? How would it be to spend a little time knowing each other at workplace?
I feel it would be absolutely fun. Few months after I started working at POC Farm, we started an initiative called “Friday fun at work”. The theme behind this initiative was to encourage team building among us. For the Friday fun at work, we accepted the activities like screening movie, playing games, and going out with team mates as a few major events to be selected every week.
For our first exciting Friday activity, we had a poll for choosing the movie to be screened in which “The Martian” received the highest votes. I, along with my teammates, found ourselves on the edge of the seat watching the trailer of the movie. I decided to be there-with bells on!
The most awaited Friday evening came after a series of working days. We all gathered in a meeting hall which was booked for our activity. The event commenced with an interesting activity ‘Know Thy Neighbor’. In this activity, we had to talk about our colleague for a minute by picking a chit with the names. It was interesting to know about each other’s perception at work. The entire room burst out of laughing when people tried to match hobbies to their respective individual with probability.
This event taught me to become familiar with friends as much as possible and to make time to know them in person.
Pop corns and soft drinks made a good combination to keep up our calorie level during the movie. As the movie started, the room reverberated with sound of spacecraft. The Movie plot is as below:
When astronauts blast off from the planet Mars, they leave behind Mark Watney (Matt Damon), presumed dead after a fierce storm. With only a meager amount of supplies, the stranded visitor must utilize his wits and spirit to find a way to survive on the hostile planet. Meanwhile, back on Earth, members of NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring him home, while his crew mates hatch their own plan for a daring rescue mission.
We enjoyed that enthralling and rigorously realistic outer-space survival story of a NASA botanist. At the end of the day, it was a rewarding experience for all of us. We all had praise for our manager for organizing such an exciting event.
I figured out how team building activities help us advance in our career. Some important reasons why I recommend one to involve in group activities at workplace are:
- Facilitates better communication.
- Motivates Employees
- Promotes creativity.
- Develops problem solving skills.
- Increases the trust factor among us.
I am eagerly waiting for next Friday evening to spend valuable time with my team mates.
